"This film is both a love letter to the planet and an urgent plea to its citizens.”—Justin Berton, San Francisco Chronicle
A Sea Change is the first film about the EVIL TWIN of CLIMATE CHANGE, ocean acidification. Will you help make a HUGE SPLASH and let the public know about the threat excess carbon dioxide poses to ocean life? Will you help get oceans on the table at the international climate discussions? You can arrange a community screening. Just visit the "Screenings" area on our website for details. We'll provide postcards and mini-posters to help get the word out. “Ocean acidification is the flip side of global warming and if you have children, grandchildren or any investment in life as we know it continuing on this planet, this is a must-see film.”—Marin Maven Imagine a world without fish. It’s a frightening possibility, and it could come true. A Sea Change follows the journey of retired history teacher Sven Huseby on his quest to discover what is happening to the world’s oceans. After reading Elizabeth Kolbert’s “The Darkening Sea,” Sven becomes obsessed with the rising acidity of the oceans and what this “sea change” bodes for mankind. His quest takes him to Alaska, California, Washington, and Norway as he uncovers a worldwide crisis that most people are unaware of. Sven discovers that global warming is only half the story of the environmental catastrophe that awaits us. Excess carbon dioxide is dissolving in our oceans, changing sea water chemistry. The more acidic water makes it difficult for tiny creatures at the bottom of the food web to form their shells. The effects could work their way up to the fish 1 billion people depend upon for their source of protein. "A Sea Change follows ex-history teacher, activist and grandfather Sven Huseby as he travels to visit various scientists to learn more about the impacts of ocean acidification and tries to find ways to explain the problem to his 5-year-old grandson, Elias. I completely fell in love with Sven and the extraordinarily bright Elias. The people in the film are very real and approachable and the ocean footage is stunning. Optimistic, with a whole section of solutions at the end. Broad appeal for all ages." —Dr. Cat Dorey, Sustainable Seafood Advisor, Greenpeace International From the filmmaker: Official website | Trailer | Buy the DVD | Hosting materials Tags: documentary, global warming, climate change, ocean acidification, Niijii Films, marine conservation, Barbara Ettinger, Sven Huseby, pteropod No screenings of A Sea Change are currently scheduled.
